About the trail

This trail begins on regional road ER 101, next to Ribeira da Cruz, which separates the municipality of Porto Moniz from the municipality of Calheta.
From the road you will need to climb a path until you reach the levada.
Walking against the water flow direction, you can visit one of the springs (madre da levada) that supplies this levada.
To continue to Junqueira you will need to turn back and follow the water flow direction.
Upon reaching the regional road at Portas da Vila, you should head towards Posto Florestal da Santa and turning right you will find the levada again.
Be aware that from here you will encounter a large number of levada branches that channel water through agricultural fields to irrigation tanks.
The route ends at Caminho dos Moinhos, in Junqueira.
Levada Grande or do Moinho is known by this name because there used to be a collection of water mills along its route, and it is still possible to find some remains of them.
