The presence of the sea is an unavoidable part of daily life in Câmara de Lobos. The city maintains a close and centuries-old relationship with the Atlantic Ocean — a guarantee of essential resources and fundamental to the landscape setting that defines this region of the south coast of Madeira island. One of the most privileged ways to come into close contact with the waters that bathe this municipality is through the Câmara de Lobos Promenade.
This is a 2.2 km long seafront promenade. Visitors can use this pedestrian route to walk between the Ponta da Cruz area, where another promenade begins that extends to the Lido area, and Câmara de Lobos bay, one of the municipality's main calling cards, famous for its characteristic fishing boats, the "Xavelhas", which add color to the scenery.
This route passes through Caminho da Trincheira and ends near the bay's parking area. In this zone, visitors can enjoy the landscaped areas that have been recently rehabilitated here, with the introduction of various tree species. Since part of the Câmara de Lobos Promenade is built on pillars, it's possible to reduce its environmental impact and, in this way, keep the natural beauty of the cliff practically intact.
