This trail starts at Ginjas, in the Concelho de São Vicente, and follows the esplanade of the levada Fajã Rodrigues or Levada Fajã da Ama, two names by which it is known, ending at the levada's intake on the Ribeira do Inferno.
This levada, laid out at an altitude of 600 metres, originates in the bed of the Ribeira do Inferno, which divides the lands of Seixal from those of São Vicente, and winds along ridges and small valleys to the site of Rosário, with the purpose of irrigating the agricultural fields of São Vicente.
The exotic forest you encounter at the start of the trail, with maritime pines (Pinus pinaster) and eucalyptus (Eucalyptus globulus), precedes the dense vegetation characteristic of the native forest - Laurisilva Forest, classified as a Natural World Heritage Site by UNESCO since December 1999.
The waterfalls, tunnels and the beautiful panoramas that the landscapes of São Vicente offer along the levada give this trail a special charm.
Let yourself be immersed in the surrounding scenery, appreciating the valleys that drop down to the bed of the Ribeira do Inferno and prepare your breath for the return.
