PR 17 - Pináculo and Folhadal Path

Starting near the regional road ER 105, at Lombo do Mouro, this route takes hikers through a magnificent variety of landscapes and paths, passing through Pináculo, Caramujo and following both the Levada da Serra and Levada do Norte, finishing at Encumeada.
The route, unfolding between 1490 and 970m altitude, crosses an excellent area of natural vegetation, both high-altitude and Laurisilva Forest, classified as Natural World Heritage by UNESCO since December 1999 and an integral area of the Natura 2000 Network.
Along the route you will find, in addition to the magnificent landscape over the Ribeira Brava valley, various architectural and heritage elements of the island, such as the "caminho do concelho" – a section of public path used for transit of the population between the north and south sides of the island – paved with stone; the levadas built for water transport, and the tunnels carved into the rock to bring water from the north side to the south side of the island.
At Encumeada you can access PR 1.3 Vereda da Encumeada, which will lead you to Pico Ruivo.
