About the trail
Starting at Regional Road No. 105, in the Rabaçal area, this trail follows the Levada do Alecrim, located at 1,300 meters altitude, until reaching its source at Ribeira do Lajeado. It's 3.5 km (one way) filled with cinematic scenery in close proximity to nature.
With an estimated duration of 2h30, and considered an easy route, PR 6.2 Levada do Alecrim offers expansive views over the Rabaçal valley and Ribeira da Janela. Green tones dominate due to the characteristic density of the Laurissilva forest, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Additionally, you'll find some heather tunnels here that provide a unique atmosphere to the hiking experience.
The greatest surprise, however, is reserved for when you reach the source of Levada do Alecrim, a levada built to supply the Calheta Hydroelectric Plant. At this location, you can refresh yourself by the "Dona Beja" lagoon, which feeds the Lagoa do Vento waterfall.
The return from Levada do Alecrim follows the same path. Alternatively, you can head toward Casa de Abrigo do Rabaçal, following the Vereda da Lagoa do Vento (PR 6.3). Discover the secrets of this verdant island.

- Never walk alone, always take company and a charged mobile device;
- Avoid noise and behaviors that disturb the environment;
- Stay on the trail, don't use shortcuts, avoiding disorientation, imbalance and falls;
- Don't collect or damage plants or disturb animals;
- Make sure of the walking time and ensure you finish before nightfall;
- Don't abandon litter, dispose of it in appropriate places;
- Use appropriate clothing and footwear;
- Don't make fires;
- The routes are not dangerous, but they may conceal fatal precipices that are hidden by vegetation;
- Don't destroy or modify signage;
- The ground may be wet, slippery, and sometimes irregular, so you should take extra care with your mobility;
- Bicycles and/or motorcycles are prohibited on pedestrian routes;
- In narrower areas, you should facilitate access for those in more unfavorable positions by placing yourself in a safe location, never in areas with chasms or apparently dense vegetation;
- In case of route interruption due to landslides, other obstacles, or heavy rain and strong winds, turn back using the same route.
