About the trail

This trail begins on regional road ER 101, next to Ribeira da Cruz, which separates the municipality of Porto Moniz from the municipality of Calheta.
From the road you will need to climb a path until you reach the levada.
Walking against the direction of the water flow, you can visit one of the springs (mother of the levada) that feeds this levada.
To continue towards Junqueira, you will need to turn back and follow in the direction of the water flow.
Upon reaching the regional road at Portas da Vila, you should head towards the Santa Forest Station and turning right you will find the levada again.
Please note that from here on you will encounter a large number of levada branches that carry water through agricultural fields to irrigation tanks.
The route ends at Caminho dos Moinhos, in Junqueira.
The Levada Grande or do Moinho is known by this name because there used to be a series of water mills along its path, and it is still possible to find some remains of them.

In case of route interruption due to rockfall, other obstacles or heavy rain and strong winds, turn back using the same route.
