This trail, like the Vereda do Pesqueiro, is another access route that lets you keep direct contact with the westernmost coastline of the municipality of Calheta.
You can clearly spot the destination from the Miradouro do Fio next to the Casa de Chá at the start of the route in Ponta do Pargo.
The descent down the slope follows a zigzag line to the shoreline and, although the horizontal distance from the top to the beach is shorter than the parallel Vereda do Pesqueiro, the slope is steeper, increasing the difficulty of both the ascent and descent. We therefore strongly recommend attempting it only if you meet the necessary physical fitness requirements.
Along the route you will notice that the slope is covered by a large natural stand of tabaibeiras; avoid direct contact, as their almost invisible spines can irritate the skin. Just before reaching the sea the near-flat area, once intensively cultivated, corresponds to an excellent zone for agricultural activities. The terraced fields (socalcos) are clearly visible here and still show considerable robustness despite the passage of years.
In the final section the trail, due to light use, has in places been encroached by vegetation, so it may be necessary at times to clear a path, without however losing the sense of the route.
When you reach the beach (calhau) you will appreciate the true scale of the slope and feel the sea spray and sound of the ocean, allowing you to recover the energy needed for the return journey.
