A little above the crossroads between the roads coming from Paul da Serra, on the ER 105, you will find a sign indicating "Galhano" (Pico da Fonte do Bispo). This is where you will begin this long journey along Madeira's stunning north coast. Due to the very natural character of this trail, the steep descent gradient, and the various tunnels to traverse.
The route begins at an altitude of one thousand two hundred and fifty meters on a wide track until reaching the Levada da Ribeira da Janela. In the first moments of the walk, you will encounter beautiful large heathers that beautify the high-altitude scenery as well as the deep landscapes where the Atlantic Ocean serves as a backdrop.
From the signpost indicating Galhano, the Laurisilva forest emerges to dominate the scenery and the green color intensely dominates the surroundings. The descent to the Levada da Ribeira da Janela includes various stages and levels of walking requiring different techniques and approaches to the terrain.
