About the trail

Vereda do Pesqueiro is a coastal trail of 2.3 km (4.6 km round trip) that allows you to observe the western coastline of the municipality of Calheta. You will have direct visual contact with the Atlantic Ocean throughout the route, as well as with the imposing slopes facing it. The descent down the slope is done in a zigzag, allowing a relatively gentle gradient and offering views of the old terraces that were once cultivated. For almost the entire route you will have, on your left, a long waterfall accompanying your descent down the slope, flowing into the Atlantic Ocean. At the end of the trail, access to the pebble beach lets you appreciate the waves and the therapeutic soundscape that will certainly convey calm and absolute tranquility.

- Due to Madeira's orographic specificities, it is common to encounter waterfalls along routes. Do not be tempted to run when passing under a waterfall, as surfaces are slippery. Put on your rain gear and cross with necessary caution. Always travel on the side that offers the least risk of a sudden fall.
- Make sure you have all the equipment needed for the type of route you intend to do. Footwear and gaiters/leg protection are very important, especially if you plan a demanding hike.
- Eat well and prepare a snack that allows you to properly recover the energy expended.
- If your hike is at higher elevation, always take warm clothing even if the weather seems favorable. Microclimates become more frequent as you ascend.
