Vereda dos Zimbreiros

This short trail offers the walker a peaceful stroll along the seaside slope of the Fajã da Ovelha and Paul do Mar, ending at the Ribeira das Galinhas, by the Atlantic Ocean.

The Vereda dos Zimbreiros is mostly traversed on a cobbled path, in architectural harmony with the paired stone walls that support the agricultural terraces. Complementing this scene is the magnificent backdrop of the Atlantic Ocean.
As in much of the slopes of the municipality of Calheta, the tabaibeira plants typical of drier zones grow freely, and in places faster-growing vegetation encroaches on the pedestrian section of the trail despite periodic clearing by local authorities.
As you approach the first half of the route you can obtain a privileged view over Paul do Mar, turning a short walk into a long moment of contemplation.
At the end of the trail you can access local bars, much frequented by Madeirans in the late afternoon, as well as by tourists visiting Madeira.
